Howard Halbert of Cleburne, known for his graphite pencil works annually sold for thousands during the Children's Advocacy Center's Cowboys for Kids gala, has been selected to display his art at the National Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
The “Small Works, Great Wonders Art Sale” is one of the most prestigious shows in the United States. The artists will display their work the week leading up to the sale, and the sale will take place Nov. 11.
Halbert's iconic works include horses, cattle, cowboys and children.
He was born and raised in North Texas and quickly developed an interest in portraying the subjects of his art. He became a partner with his father, Shorty, in a large ranching operation, which for many years deterred his art.
He was able to refocus on his dream to become a professional artist a few years ago.
"I believe my passion and love of horses and the western way of life show in my work," Halbert said. "I thank God for this gift which allows me to share with others what I truly enjoy."
He has credited Texas artist George Hallmark for recognizing his talent and encouraging him to pursue his calling. Halbert's work is represented by McLarry Fine Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico and the Howell Gallery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
