Walmart Supercenter, at 951 SW Wilshire Blvd., was cleared Saturday night after an employee received a bomb threat from an unknown caller.
"Our understanding is the caller said he was going to 'blow the place up.'" Police Chief Billy Cordell said. "He told them, 'You're all going to die,' started laughing and hung up."
A Walmart manager decided to evacuate the store shortly after the call was received at 8:19 p.m. The store was cleared by police at 9:56 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Burleson police and firefighters responded to the call. The store had been evacuated when responders arrived on the scene, Cordell said.
"We were able to find nothing out of the ordinary in a sweep of the store," Cordell said. "Shy of knowing we have an [explosive] device or something specific, the decision to evacuate we prefer to leave to store management."
If Walmart were to pursue charges against a suspect, the case could result in a felony charge based on interruption of Walmart's business and a presumed pecuniary loss of at least $1,500.
