An employee on break at Whataburger may have wished he stayed on duty early Friday morning.
A six-foot, white male dressed in a black hoodie approached the employee on foot, who was somewhere near Kerr Middle School and Johnson Avenue, at about 1:18 a.m.
"The suspect pulled a firearm on the Whataburger employee and asked for money," Burleson Police Sgt. Wes Routson said. "When he said he didn't have any money, the employee was asked for his phone. He said he wasn't going to give the suspect his phone."
The case remains under investigation.
It may possibly be the gun was fake, Routson said, or the suspect didn't believe it was worth using for a phone. The victim told the robber he wasn't giving him anything, Routson said.
"He didn't give him his phone and the suspect didn't take it," Routson said. "In this case, the victim didn't lose anything. We would say that a phone is not worth potentially losing your life over."
Because the suspect was on foot, police are working solely on an identification description of the suspect and have no vehicle description. Anyone with information related to this case may call Johnson County Crime Stoppers anonymously at 817-469-8477 or text "JCCS" and a message to 274637.
