Burleson residents receive academic honors and recognition

Burleson residents recently earned recognition for academic performance at various universities and colleges. The residents are:

• Julia Tucker has been named to the Eastern New Mexico University Dean’s List for the fall 2018 semester.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours with a GPA between 3.25 and 4.00.

Located in Portales, New Mexico, ENMU offers associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree options. Courses are offered on campus and online.

• Aaron Gene Furr and Payton Elisabeth Shlemon were among 592 undergraduate and graduates to earn degrees Dec. 15 Angelo State University.

Commencement ceremonies were held at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena in San Angelo.

Furr received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Nursing Generic Option, magna cum laude, and Shlemon received a Bachelor of Science in Geoscience

Furr and Shlemon were also named to the Dean’s List for the 2018 Fall Semester at Angelo State University.

To be eligible for the ASU Dean’s List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Angelo State University, located in San Angelo and founded in 1928 and part of the Texas Tech University System, is a thriving four-year public school. Angelo State has been ranked as one of The Princeton

Review’s “Best Colleges” in the nation for 10 straight years, and we are also a College of Distinction.

• Jason Carlson, Rachel Howard and Ralph Tones were named to the Columbia College dean’s list for the Fall Semester (August-December 2018).

To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have completed 12 semester hours in a 16-week period and achieved a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0-point scale.

Founded in 1851 in Columbia, Missouri, Columbia College has been helping students advance their lives through higher education for more than 165 years.

• Emily Kathryn Blackaby and Joannie Fleischer were among more than 900 graduates during fall commencement exercises Dec. 15 in the Ferrell Center at Baylor University in Waco.

Blackaby, earned a Bachelor of Science, Geology, with Cum Laude honors and Fleischer received a Bachelor of Music, Church Music, with Magna Cum Laude honors.

Baylor’s mission is to educate students for worldwide leadership and service by integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment in a caring community. Nestled along the banks of the Brazos

River, Baylor provides numerous educational and research opportunities across various disciplines through 128 baccalaureate programs, 77 master’s programs, 45 doctoral programs, a juris doctor and education specialist programs and the Master of Laws program.

• Hanna Gonzalez received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing during Fall 2018 commencement ceremonies at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.

• Hannah Roden, a sophomore graphic design major from Burleson, is among more than 1,200 students included on the dean’s list for grades achieved during the fall 2018 semester at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.

The dean’s list is published each semester by Dr. Marty Spears, University provost, honoring those who have achieved high scholarship. To be eligible, a student must be carrying 12 or more hours with a 3.65 or higher grade-point average and no incompletes.

Harding University is a private Christian, liberal arts university and is the largest private university in the state. Harding’s student body represents all 50 states and 50 nations and territories.

• Ten Burleson residents were among more than 4,400 Baylor University students named to the Dean’s Academic Honor Roll for the 2018 fall semester. Students honored on the Dean’s List are Baylor undergraduates with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.

The Burleson 10 are Emily Kathryn Blackaby, College of Arts & Sciences; Angelia Nicole Brown, School of Education; Bailey R Faubion, Hankamer School of Business; Linda Joan Fleischer, School of Music; Tara Lynn Gilbert, College of Arts & Sciences; Abigail Lynn Jennings, School of Education; Kaitlyn Kadura, College of Arts & Sciences; Camille Rasor, College of Arts & Sciences; Faith E Strube, Robbins College of Health and Human Services; and Rachel Elizabeth Van Lear, School of Engineering and Computer Science.

Located in Waco, Baylor University is a private Christian university and a nationally ranked research institution with an enrollment of more than 17,000 students. Chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas, Baylor is the oldest continually operating university in Texas.

• Naomi Bannwart and Marisa Pope of Burleson and Kelsey Newton of Joshua were among 613 students listed on the Fall 2018 Provost’s Honor Roll at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.

To receive this recognition, a student must achieve a 3.85 grade point average (GPA) or better on a 4.0 scale.

• Dan K. Wagner, a Software Engineering major, was one of more than 1,800 students to be named to the Dean’s List last fall at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan.

MTU, whose campus in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula overlooks the Keweenaw Waterway and is just a few miles from Lake Superior, is a public research university, home to more than 7,000 students from 60 countries. Founded in 1885, the University offers more than 120 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

• Blaine McRay and Michael Limones have been named to the Fall 2018 Dean’s List at McMurry University in Alilene. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must have maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average while taking twelve or more credit hours.

McMurry University, founded in 1923 as a United Methodist institution, is a vibrant and comprehensive center of higher education. McMurry has a national reputation for excellence and value through the achievements of its faculty, students and graduates. The University enrolls more than 1,000 students and has an average class size of 16.
